This project for the Penrose/Pritzker organization consisted of developing a concept design for a landmark, two million sf project in Washington’s budding NOMA (North of Massachusetts Avenue) Technology District. It was planned to be developed in phases, with seven buildings eventually occupying a seven-acre site.

The concept design comprises seven integrated buildings that create a new, urban, and open space. The buildings are connected by a generous public plaza and complemented by retail establishments, restaurants, underground parking and the

new Metro station planned for New York Avenue. The architectural design aesthetic for the buildings is light, open and contemporary, combining, a pale palette with steel elements and soaring glass panels. It translates the genus loci of downtown Washington into a fresh and modern idiom. Design guidelines were also prepared for the area around the new Metro station that will serve this area of the city, including the new 400,000 ATF headquarters building and the 1st and M Street site.
