The Mohegan Tribal Government Center is a business, community, and cultural activity center for this Eastern Connecticut tribe. The semicircular building, located on densely wooded Crow Hill, offers magnificent views over the Moheganic (or Thames River). The design incorporates the site’s trees and terrain to form a natural ceremonial entrance.

The Government Center includes 100,000 square feet of business and office space, and 100,000 square feet of community, educational, cultural, and indoor/outdoor sports amenities. The Center also includes health and human resources departments, daycare services, and food facilities.

departments, daycare services, and food facilities. A circular 400-car parking garage sits beneath the Center.

This sustainable design honors the Mohegan’s worship of Nature, the Sun, Earth, Water and Wind, and incorporates natural air cooling, natural ventilation, daylight optimization, reuse of local stone and a half circular photovoltaic system that elegantly crowns the building.

Michael Winstanley AIA AICP was the Design Principal for this project during his tenure as Design Director at Leo A Daly.
